We always plan pre-treatment systems on a customer-specific basis, depending on the component and material. The right choice of surface pre-treatment system creates the conditions for a high-quality and durable paint finish. Without pre-treatment, the paint will not adhere. As the requirements for pre-treatment systems are always individual, planning in advance is extremely important. We manufacture pre-treatment systems as individual components or as part of a complete painting line. In order to find the most economical solution together, we also consult with chemical suppliers and wastewater technology specialists.

What is meant by pre-treatment?

Pre-treatment for the painting process is the process that takes place before the actual painting. This step is crucial to ensure that the paint adheres well and that the surface is clean, free of contaminants and ready for painting. Thorough pre-treatment is crucial for the quality and longevity of the paint finish. Surface preparation involves several steps.

  • Cleaning: Pre-treatment by cleaning removes dust, grease, oil, rust, dirt or other contaminants from the surface of the workpiece by washing, chemical cleaning agents or other cleaning techniques.
  • Degreasing & pickling: Degreasing is a particularly important step for greasy surfaces, as grease can impair the adhesion of the paint. Degreasing agents are used to clean the surface of oil and grease. It may also be necessary to integrate a pickling stage to remove the anodized layer or scale, for example.
  • Passivation: During passivation, a protective layer is applied to the surface to improve corrosion protection. The layer also helps the paint to adhere better.
  • Rinsing & drying: After pre-treatment, it is extremely important to remove all residues of cleaning agents and chemicals from the workpiece and to dry the surface.

Pre-treatment systems are used in various industries such as the automotive, furniture, electronics and household appliance industries as well as in metal processing.

We manufacture various pre-treatment systems, including spray pre-treatment systems, dip pre-treatment systems and manual cleaning systems. We also offer customized pre- treatment systems that are tailored precisely to your needs.

Spray pre-treatment systems

Spray pre-treatment systems are the first choice in many branches of industry. We can design spray pre-treatment systems as cycle or continuous systems. Mechanical support ensures fast process times, which also increases the efficiency of your company. Depending on the type of system, different substrates and different programs are possible. Further advantages are the adjustable pressure, the low liquid volume as well as low temperatures and chemical concentrations. The pre-treatment systems can be seamlessly integrated into the overall process. Our modular system allows us to offer you customized solutions. We differentiate between four types of spray pre-treatment systems.

Immersion pre-treatment systems

Dip pre-treatment systems are an alternative to spray pre-treatment systems. The dip system does not produce any spray shadows, as the interior spaces are also wetted. Pickling processes are therefore more effective. Various substrates such as steel and aluminum can be processed in dip pre-treatment systems. In addition, different programs – from light to heavily soiled – and the integration of dip coatings – KTL, ATL or auto-deposition processes – are possible. The dip pre-treatment system has a low energy consumption. We offer seamless integration into the overall process, in which the hangers are automatically transferred to the conveyor system.

Why should surfaces be pre-treated?

To obtain an excellent workpiece, it is important to prepare the surface according to requirements and function. Pre-treatment has a significant influence on the properties of the finished workpiece.

Advantages of pre-treatment systems:

  • Improved adhesion: If the surface of the workpiece is thoroughly pretreated, the paint can adhere better. This makes the coating more even and durable and less susceptible to chipping or peeling.
  • Corrosion protection: Pre-treatment also protects the surface from corrosion. This type of coating is particularly important for metal substrates. Pre-treatment forms a layer that prevents the penetration of moisture and other corrosive substances.
  • Improved paintability: Pre-treatment also improves the paintability of surfaces. It is freed from impurities and is given a uniform structure to which the paint can adhere evenly. This results in a smooth and professional paint finish.
  • Extended service life: If a surface is pre-treated, it offers improved durability and resistance. The paint finish lasts longer and is less susceptible to wear and damage.
  • Environmentally friendly: Environmentally friendly pre-treatment techniques can reduce the environmental impact. Some pre-treatment systems are designed to recycle or dispose of waste water and chemicals.
